This is the reason behind Unilever's decision to recall Magnum Almond Ice Cream in the UK.

Unilever is recalling Magnum Almond ice cream sticks in the UK due to the presence of plastic and metal contamination, which has been deemed "unsafe to eat" by the UK Food Standards Agency (FSA). The ice cream boxes with batch codes L3338, L3339, L3340, L3341, and L3342, and a Best Before date of 12/2025 are affected. The recall is being initiated due to the lack of allergen information on the product labels, despite the absence of any reported illnesses. This follows a recent ice cream recall in the US by Belgian Yummies, which was due to undeclared allergens in various flavours. Consumers who are allergic to wheat, soya, eggs, coconut, or peanuts are advised to avoid these products to prevent severe allergic reactions. UK retailers have been informed of the recall and will provide in-store notices to guide affected consumers in accordance with food safety directives.

Apple's sales of mobile phones in China in the first quarter of 2024 declined by 19.1%, while Huawei's sales increased by 70%.

Apple's smartphone sales have experienced a significant decline of 19.1% during the first quarter of 2024, while its competitor Huawei has seen a growth of 69.1%. This poses a threat to Apple's dominant position in the high-end segment of the global smartphone market, particularly in China. According to Counterpoint Research, Apple's market share in China has declined to 15.7% in the first quarter of this year, compared to 19.7% in the same period last year. Meanwhile, Huawei's market share has risen to 15.5% from 9.3%. This shift in market shares highlights a potential challenge to Apple's stronghold in the Chinese market.

The US Senate has approved a bill that will require the sale of TikTok.

The US Senate has passed legislation requiring Chinese company ByteDance to sell its TikTok holdings in the United States within the next nine months, or face a ban on the popular app. The bipartisan bill received support from 79 senators, reflecting concerns about China potentially accessing US citizens' data through TikTok. Former US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin is reportedly leading a consortium of investors interested in purchasing the app. This follows a similar move by the US House of Representatives, which approved the bill last month. President Joe Biden has indicated his intention to sign the bill, and has previously voiced concerns to Chinese President Xi Jinping about TikTok. The legislation underscores the ongoing tensions between the US and China.
