Pakistan Confirms No Scheduled Date for the Next Round of US–Iran Negotiations

Plans for a follow-up meeting between the United States and Iran remain uncertain. Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that no date has been set for the second round of talks. “Nuclear issues are among the topics currently under discussion by various countries,” a spokesperson for Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said on Thursday (April 16, 2026), as reported by Reuters. Earlier, on Tuesday (April 14, 2026), Donald Trump indicated that negotiations aimed at ending the conflict with Iran could resume in Pakistan within the next two days. The failure of last weekend’s negotiations prompted Washington to impose a blockade on Iranian ports, further escalating tensions and complicating diplomatic efforts to resolve the dispute.

US Ready to Resume Military Operations if Iran Rejects Peace Deal

The United States government has expressed its readiness to continue military operations in the Middle East if Iran refuses to agree to a peace deal. The statement underscores Washington’s firm stance amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region. U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that American forces in the region have been strategically positioned to resume combat operations should negotiations with Iran fail to yield results. Speaking during a Pentagon briefing on Thursday (April 16, 2026), Hegseth emphasized that Iran has an opportunity to pursue a more prosperous future. “Iran, you can choose a prosperous future a golden bridge and we hope you do so for the sake of the Iranian people,” he said.

Why Kevin Warsh’s Bid to Lead the Federal Reserve May Be Postponed

The leadership transition at the United States central bank is facing potential obstacles. President Donald Trump’s nominee to lead the Federal Reserve, Kevin Warsh, is reportedly unlikely to secure Senate approval before the term of current Fed Chair Jerome Powell expires on May 15. This uncertainty raises concerns over a smooth transition at the helm of the world’s most influential central bank. Although the Senate Banking Committee is scheduled to hold Warsh’s confirmation hearing next week, his prospects appear increasingly uncertain. A key hurdle comes from Republican Senator Thom Tillis, who has pledged to block the process until the Department of Justice concludes its investigation into Powell. The probe relates to Powell’s oversight of the Federal Reserve’s headquarters renovation in Washington. Trump has insisted that the investigation proceed, despite a federal judge previously invalidating a government subpoena, citing concerns that it was intended to pressure Powell into cutting interest rates.
