OPEC+ Set to Approve Another Output Increase for August as Oil Prices Ease

The OPEC+ is expected to approve another increase in its oil production target beginning in August, according to sources familiar with the discussions. The move would add more supply to global markets at a time when crude prices have weakened amid the gradual reopening of the Strait of Hormuz for oil exports. Sources told Reuters that OPEC+ has, in principle, agreed to raise production quotas by 188,000 barrels per day starting in August, matching the increases implemented for June and July. Two additional sources said this remains the most likely outcome of the group's virtual meeting. Since April, seven core OPEC+ members including Russia and other key producers have collectively increased their production quotas by nearly 800,000 barrels per day, reflecting the alliance's efforts to balance global oil supply while responding to changing market conditions.

Taiwan Revives Anti-Communist Patriotic Education for Military Graduates Amid Rising China Tensions

Taiwan has reinstated anti-communist patriotic education for military academy graduates after the program had been discontinued for roughly 25 years. The policy comes as the government responds to increasing military pressure and alleged infiltration efforts by China. Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense announced on Sunday that the anti-communist curriculum would be restored because the security threat posed by China has become more severe. The program had been revised in 2002 into a broader form of patriotic education, removing its explicit anti-communist focus. According to the ministry, the updated curriculum is intended to ensure that military graduates have a clear understanding of national security threats while strengthening their sense of duty and responsibility as members of Taiwan’s armed forces.

Ukraine Targets Russian Oil Facilities in Major Drone Attack Near St. Petersburg

Ukraine has intensified its campaign against Russian energy infrastructure, launching a large-scale drone attack on Saturday that targeted an oil terminal near Saint Petersburg and the port area of Vysotsk. The strikes add to mounting pressure on Russia’s fuel supply network, which has faced repeated disruptions in recent months due to attacks on key energy facilities. St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov said Russia’s second-largest city came under a large-scale drone assault, with one of the targeted sites being an oil terminal. He stated that there were no casualties and that authorities had successfully contained the impact of the attack. The latest strike reflects Ukraine’s continued strategy of targeting critical energy infrastructure deep inside Russia to disrupt logistics and increase economic pressure on Moscow.
